As part of their Love Where You Live campaign, Keep Britain Tidy has declared February to be Love Month and to celebrate, they are giving every Eco-School in England the chance to win one of their exclusive talking bins for use in the summer term – plus the opportunity to add their own messages to the bin!

Improving literacy standards 
As part of our Literacy drive this year we are focusing on reading. Every student in the school will be expected to read for an allotted ten minute session every day.

Headteacher's Welcome
This term has seen 36 year sevens, 24 year eights, 21 year 9s, 16 year 10s and 29 year 11s achieve the first level of award in our new rewards system; that’s Bronze: Level One (100 merits needed). We have also seen our first Bronze: Level Two awarded. Every two weeks, Rewards Assemblies take place for each year group where students and staff celebrate the fact that it’s great to learn, to be seen doing it and to be proud to receive recognition of it! Our newsletter; The Beacon gives details of other achievements this half term.
Thank you to parents for continuing to support our uniform policy. It does make a difference; we see that every day. With the cold weather here I would remind parents that East Point has a specific jumper, available from the office, and that only the Academy jumper may be worn. Trousers also must be standard school trousers and absolutely no hoodies are allowed. It is really important that we maintain the high standards that many people in the community have kindly commented on so positively. Students are greeted at the door every day, uniform is checked. Please do contact either Mrs Rodden or Ms Mayes if you have any uniform questions.
We said goodbye to Mr Walden, Vice Principal at the end of term. Mr Walden has been working here for 18 years. We all wish him the very best in his retirement and thank him sincerely for all the work he has done here. We welcome Mrs Woods in January joining East Point as a new Vice Principal.
Next term will see many other developments in the curriculum, consultation, the site, ICT and opportunities for parents to meet staff and other students. Look out for details on the website, in the press and by student post.
