East Point Academy pupils entertained audiences this week with their lively production of ‘Fame Jr.’. Performing at Lowestoft’s beloved venue from Monday 10th to Thursday 13th. The students sang and danced their way through the West End and Broadway hit.

‘Fame Jr’. is a musical based on the book by Jose Fernandez, featuring lyrics by Jacques Levy and music by Steve Margoshes. Set in the early 1980s, the story tells of the highs and lows of the final class to attend New York City’s High School for the Performing Arts. The audience follows various storylines, such as Tyrone’s crush on new student Iris, Mabel confronting her challenges with eating issues and Carmen’s determination to prove herself as an artist.

Not only was this an amazing chance for the students to play a range of characters. East Point Academy had two casts performing who had two performance nights each, allowing multiple actors to play as lead or ensemble cast. There were also opportunities to be a part of the chorus or the stage crew.

Drama teacher Mr Vincent said:

"It has been lots of fun working on this show with a cast of enthusiastic and talented students. They have all been trying their hardest to make the show a spectacle to watch. Each student is keen to give the annual musical another go after having developed and learnt a lot from the process"

Each production member thoroughly enjoyed East Point Academy’s residency at The Seagull. The school hopes to continue working in partnership with the theatre to enhance student opportunities, and make this the first of many shows with them.

Head of Performing Arts Mr Mason commented:

“The school are honoured to now be working in The Seagull theatre and to be performing within the Lowestoft community. The Seagull is a much loved and treasured theatre with professional lighting and sound, giving our students a unique performing experience. As a school, we look forward to working with The Seagull theatre next year!”

Tremendous thanks to all students and staff who took part in the production, and a big thank you to The Seagull for giving East Point Academy, the students and their parents this amazing opportunity.

Other Inspiration Trust schools carried out performances this week. Great Yarmouth Charter Academy showcased ‘Frozen Jr’, whilst The Hewett Academy, Jane Austen College and Sir Issac Newton Sixth Form performed the collaborative production of ‘Our House’.
